EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL

In 2010 Eyjafjallajokull began spewing molten lava and smoke as high as the  stratosphere after being dormant for 180 years. The mighty volcoano pretty much single-handed stopped airtraffic all over the world – famous but infamous.

GOOD TO KNOW – THIS IS HOW WE DO IT

BOOK YOUR HELI-TOUR

Shortly after take-off we enter the Holtsárgil Canyon and climb along the steep cliffs towards Fimmvörðuháls – where  during the eruption of 2010 the volcano underneath the Eyjafjallajoekull two new craters formed. While climbing we are  passing a well kept secret– a 200 ft. waterfall in the Kaldaklifsár River Canyon – not many people know about this beauty and it is a real stunner.

After flying over Fimmvörðuháls and the little mountain hut we drop back to a lower altitude and follow a black riverbed right into Þórsmörk. Here we turn north and fly over deep canyons and past solitary mountains – sights like we have entered another world. Further on we finally reach the Rhyolite Mountains of Landmannalaugar. Here we stop at a geothermal pool for a hike and a soak – so don’t forget your swimwear.

On our way back we fly over Obsidian lava fields and remote geothermal areas and last but not least have a breathtaking view of the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier.
